About Spindletop:
Spindletop was named for the field near Beaumont Texas where the Yount family struck oil in 1925.  It was completed in 1937 at a cost of one million dollars.  The owner, Pansy Yount, “deemed the house to be a showplace of Kentucky, a modern mansion of classical architecture”   In 1959 the house was purchased by the University of Kentucky, and now serves at a private facility for UK alumni and staff.
