What is a road rally?

A road rally is an automotive event in which two people, driver and navigator, attempt to follow an unknown route and arrive at timing controls exactly on time.

In most rallies the teams are given average speeds to maintain while following the course. They are not given the control locations but should be on time all the time. On most local rallies in this area the route following in very simple but in some cases the rallymaster may put a trap, or trick, in the routes to bring the contestant into the next control either early or late. No attempt is made  on local events, or nearly any event, to get contestants lost as this would not be likely to get people to return.

A second type of road rally is what we call a Monte Carlo control event. In this type event you are not given average speeds but are given the official mileage for all controls and the exact time you should arrive there. This means you do not have to worry about computing your time while trying to follow the route. This is a very good type of event to run for your first rally.

Most of our rally events last for 2-4 hours, depending on how long the course is and whether or not there is a stop/break in the middle.
