CKR SCCA Solo II School
May 27, 2006

The CKR SCCA is organizing a Solo School for the 2006 season.  The date is set for Saturday, May 27th and will be held at the University of Kentucky Commonwealth Stadium.  This school is limited to the first 40 CKR SCCA Members/Associate Members that sign up.  This is a pre-registration only event.  This school is being offered with the primary intention to train workers in all positions while still getting good seat time with an instructor.  We are limiting this to 40 people so that each person can have quality time learning about Solo.  To sign up for this school, you must register using www.myautoevents.com.  Click HERE for a direct link to the school listed on their website.  Registration CLOSES at midnight Saturday May 20th

Please register as you would normally register for an event, selecting the proper class for your car and a 1 or 2-digit car number of your choice.  The cost of the school is $60, which includes the school, lunch, and the next day’s autocross at UK.  You must register online and payment must be received by check or money order no later than Monday, May 22nd.  There is also the option to pre-pay online through myautoevents.com and PayPal.

Please send your check or money order to:

The purpose of the school is to offer a learning experience in various facets of Solo.  This includes driving skills, working skills and general knowledge of how events are run.  The goal is to make each student a better, well-rounded Solo participant… which is good for both the student and the club.

The format of the driver’s school will involve 4 groups with 10 participants in each group.  Each group will rotate through 4 different phases.  Each phase will be 75 minutes long.  There will be shorter 45 minute sessions at the end of the day to apply what you learned in the morning.  The 4 different phases are:

(1) Driver Training.  This is to give you some "one on one" training on your driving skills.  Whether you have autocrossed previously, or never set foot on course, this should be a good experience.  We will have 5 very experienced Solo II instructors available.  Two participants will be assigned to each instructor during each rotation.  You have the option to run by yourself or with instruction in the afternoon sessions.  The instructors for this school are: George Schweikle, Phil Osborne, Scott Bourne, Jim Moore, and David Patrick.

(2) Timing & Scoring Training:  This phase will include training in all aspects Timing & Scoring. i.e.: Master Time Log, Computer Operator, Master Control Radio, and Auditing.  Timing instructors are:  Ben Pullen and Dave Roberts.

(3) Course Worker Training: This phase is where the fun is at, Course Working!!!!  This is the emphasis of this Solo School.  Being a good course worker is key in helping to run a good smooth event. i.e.: flaggers, corner radio, cone runners, waivers, and starter.    Course worker instructors are: Andy Buck, Todd Wright, and Justin Harbour.

(4) Grid Training:  This phase will concentrate on the setup and running of grid at our events.  You will learn how to set-up the grid and how to get cars in and out of grid smoothly.  Grid instructors are: Robby Helms and TBD.
